One of the reasons teens read young adult literature is to see themselves. You’ve observed teenagers. We have discussed the characteristics of teens, the developmental tasks they are exploring, their information needs, and the changing social conditions they face today. In this assignment, you will explore how young adult literature exemplifies each of these.
Each student will be assigned to analyze one of the young adult titles assigned this term. As you read the title, think about how it exemplifies the characteristics, developmental needs, information needs, and changing world of today’s teen. Write a 1000-1200 word paper that discusses the correlations you discovered. The paper should include references to the research on young adult development and information needs we have discussed in class, as well as examples from the young adult title which support your arguments. It should reflect any additional research you’ve done and your professional judgments of the book. Please include a bibliography.
Bring your paper to class on the day the book is scheduled to be discussed and be prepared to share your insights.
Post a 200-250 word summary of your analysis to the INLS 530 Novel and Book Review Blog. (http://inls530.blogspot.com)
Two students will be assigned to comment on your post.
